Blastgates - Full, Half, & Self-Cleaning

Full Blastgates

Full Blastgates 3"-24" are constructed of aluminum castings with a galvanized steel slide blade. Gate can be disassembled for cleaning. Full Blastgates are used to balance the air going from one branch to another branch. When a machine is used for only a part of the workday, you can close the Blastgate and divert the air to another machine.18"-24" call for pricing and availability.

Half Gates

Half Gates 3"-18"have the same construction and quality as the Full Blastgate. Use Half Gates when working with wood containing a lot of pitch (it prevents the pitch from clogging the slide track). Half Gate is easily installed in existing ductwork simply by cutting a slot half way around the duct and sliding the blade into the opening, then pop riveting the casting to the outside of the duct.12"-18" call for pricing and availability.

Self-Cleaning Gates

Self-Cleaning Gates 3"-12"are the same construction as Full Blastgates except the galvanized steel blade pushes material like green wood, or wood sap through the end of the blastgate casting. This allows the blade to close without jamming on compacted materials.
7"-12" call for pricing.
Hose to Gate Connector - Hose to Blastgate Connector (BC) serves as an extension to facilitate installation of flexhose to blastgates. See page 39.

Return on Investment - Automatic Gates are costly to purchase and the return on investment is questionable. The average cost to purchase four automatic gates and have them installed is approximately $880.00 for a system with two 4" gates, one 5" gate and one 6" gate, this is without any ductwork or dust collector. If you have a home shop the only possible savings is on power. If you were to run your dust collection system 10 hours a week all year long, You would save approximately $18.25 a year on electrical costs and approximately $27.50 on heating costs. If you paid $880.00 to save $45.75 a year it could take 19 years just to get your investment back. If you manually open and close our blastgate and turn off the dust collector when not in use, you have the same electric and heating saving, with an investment of $70.80 to purchase four heavy duty cast aluminum Blastgates from Air Handling System.

Balancing with Blastgates - Our Blastgates can be adjusted to be open or closed at any position to best optimize their airflow from the equipment. Each of our Blastgates has a thumbscrew adjustment to control CFM flow. You may close off a duct system a small amount and force that CFM to be used at another machine. Once you balance your system, just mark the location of each blast gate blade, you can even use color markings for different settings.
